Introduced in 1998 with the caliber 6M26, this model was only produced from 1998 to 1999. It was aimed at the university student (18 to 22 year old), specifically as a watch that was simple yet assertive and all metal, it would not fall apart under some abuse. All SUS models are 10bar waterproof. The name is explained by Seiko as Simple and Strong, the U referring to a mathematical symbol for unity.
Design wise Seiko lay focus on textures - on the dial and the finishing of the case. This was a watch for the student with his own lifestyle.
