In 1981 Seiko Daini celebrated in a modest way its 100 year anniversary with several special models, this quartz SQ 7123 is one of them as the golden lion head signifies on the dial. Other calibers like the 8223 were also used in the early eighties as Seiko was full on producing these. That also explains the choice for quartz anniversary watches as mechanicals were much less fluid and had entrenched brand identity. Most of these watches were JDM even if SQ on the dial was mostly indicative of an overseas model - cased in Hong Kong however would still be “overseas” but not “western” as such? It remains a strange watch in the Seiko line-up.
